About the Director:

Having studied in film production at Concordia University as well as in circus at the National School of Circus of Montreal, Frédérique Cournoyer Lessard is an emergent filmmaker who works on the integration of the circus universe and poetry in films. At the age of 14, she won the “Vidéastes recherché-es” prize. She has already directed several short films. Her last short “Arrête d’être peur Phantine” was screened at the RVCQ and at the Air Canada En Route Film Festival. Frédérique is currently developing her career as an Art Director for television commercials while finishing the post-production of “PAS”, her new dance and circus short film, financed by CALQ. She’s also working on her first feature film “Mohamed, Icare ou Barura”. This poetic film sways between documentary and fiction to tell the story of a young circus artist who ran away from his country after the 2011 revolution. It’s co-produced by Microclimat Films and Ciné Télé Films in Tunisia.
