The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POWFest) is now accepting entries for its eighth annual festival scheduled to take place March 12 – 15, 2015. POWFest places a spotlight on women directors by showcasing their work and empowering the community of women in film. POWFest encourages women to find their voice and to share their stories through innovative and quality filmmaking. We feature the work of today’s top women directors, honoring the true pioneers while providing support and recognition for the next generation of leading women filmmakers. Past Guests of Honor include: Allison Anders, Kathryn Bigelow, Gillian Armstrong, Amy Heckerling, Barbara Kopple, Penelope Spheeris, Ondi Timoner and Joanna Priestley.

Monte Zucker Education is bringing The Cutting Edge Tour to Portland!
Classes are taught by editor and cinematographer for Saturday Night Live, Adam Epstein. He is renowned for his work with SNL which can be found here. The Cutting Edge Tour is a 30 city tour across the US with a goal of educating emerging and professional filmmakers about the precise cinematic language of motion, and how to move not only the camera itself, but also content in front of the camera. The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing to Portland programming that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.
