POWMonthly July Screening ~ Monday July 25th ~ celebrating fearless women who take print media into their own hands.

(2011) is a short documentary about Lebanese poet and writer Joumana Haddad who has stirred controversy in the Middle East for having founded “Jasad” (the Body), an erotic quarterly Arabic-language magazine. Despite debates, having her work banned, threats and the lack of funds, one passionate woman shows no signs of slowing her small steps toward a “sexual revolution” in the Arab world.

(2000) is a powerful and rebellious message from voices often left unheard. Featuring the creators of Bamboo Girl, Hues, Pagan’s Head, Java Turtle, Plotz, Bust and Bitch.  This is an amazing look back at Zinesters challenging mainstream media.

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $5-$10 at the door.  Any amount over $5 will go directly to support the work of POWFest.

Doors open at 6:30pm.  No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Attendees will also be entered into a drawing for a POWFest Membership! Join our facebook event here!

The Mission of POWFest

In recognition of the power of women’s voices in film, the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POWFest) places a spotlight on women directors by showcasing their work and strengthening the community of women in film. We feature the work of today’s top women directors, honoring the true pioneers while providing support and recognition for the next generation of leading women filmmakers.

POWFest’s overarching goal is to increase the number of women in leadership roles in media by providing resources, education and visibility.
