Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival ~ December 2013 ~ Newsletter

Happy Holidays from the POWFest Team!
We are three months away from POWFest 2014 and things are ramping up dramatically behind the scenes! We’re excited to announce the programming line-up, our Guest of Honor, and launching some events new to POWFest in January!

Along with several Portland premieres of feature films and documentaries, we will have several short film blocks with themes like Quirky, Relationships, Animation & Experimental, and a Youth program to include films from our POWGirls program. We will present eye-opening international features and an amazing list of shorts, both narrative and documentary.

In keeping with our mission to support the next generation of women filmmakers, POWFest will debut POWGirls in 2014, a unique partnership program with Portland Community Media, specifically designed for high school-aged girls. Over the course of 48 hours–taking place during the 2014 POWFest–a group of selected girls will develop, produce, edit and present a film during the Youth Short program.

We will also be launching a Feedback service successfully beta-tested after last year’s festival. It will provide notes on films by narrative and documentary professionals with screener feedback. More information will be released in January.

The 7th Annual festival is set for March 6-9, 2014. We will see you there!

The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing to Portland programming that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.
